Emily Spurrell - Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Merseyside
As the PCC for Merseyside (covering five of the six boroughs in the Liverpool city region), Emily oversees the policing needs of the community. PCCs were introduced by the UK government to replace Police Authorities. Her role involves ensuring the police and other organizations effectively tackle crime in the region.
Emily is responsible for holding the Chief Constable accountable and ensuring the police force is adequately funded to deliver an efficient service. This includes setting the policing budget and priorities and publishing a Police and Crime plan which outlines the strategic direction of policing in the region. Additionally, she has a statutory duty to monitor the entire criminal justice system in Merseyside.
